Pizza.. Everyone’s favorite… The store bought pizza bases and sauces are no where comparable to the home made one in freshness, taste and flavor. And you can be confident of giving it to your kids too since it is made of fresh ingredients and free of preservatives. When my kid started to eat pizza , I am too afraid of giving him the store bought Pizzas or Pizzas from the Pizza stores. So searched the web and tried various recipes for the pizza sauce and finally adjusted this to suit our taste. This sauce can be stored in fridge for 3 days and in freezer for upto 3 months.
- Tomatoes – 3
- Onion – 1
- Garlic – 3 to 4 cloves
- Chilli flakes – 1/2 teaspoon
- Pepper powder – 1/2 teaspoon
- Dried oregano – 1/2 teaspoon
- Dried basil – 1/2 teaspoon
- Salt – to taste
- sugar – 1/4 teaspoon
- Extra virgin Olive oil – 1 tablespoon
1.In a pan, heat the olive oil. The extra virgin Olive oil gives the best flavor to the sauce but you can use normal olive oil too.
2.When the oil is hot, through in the finely chopped garlic cloves.
3.Fry the garlic for a minute and then through in the finely chopped onions and fry till the onions turn transparent.
4.Now add in the finely chopped tomatoes. To increase the life , blanch the tomatoes, peel it and use.
5.When the tomato turns mushy, add in the salt, sugar, chilli flakes, pepper powder, oregano and basil.
6.If you are intending to give this to kids and don’t prefer spicy, you can omit the chilli flakes and add in the pepper powder alone.Mix them well and let it cook till the raw smell goes off and forms like a thick paste.
You can also add 1 or 2 teaspoons of tomato paste to enhance the color and to bring in the saucy consistency.
6. Now let it cool and then grind it to smooth paste. I usually prefer it to a coarse paste so that we get the bites of onion and garlic. It is purely your preference.
Store it in a air tight container in fridge or in freezer till using.
